Where does beauty reside?

Commentary by José Parés Pérez, Concepción, Chile.

Beauty does not reside in what is beautiful but in the eye of the beholder.

Beauty is the product of harmony born of a correlation between what is discerned and felt as a result of it by the person who perceives it.

It is a personal reaction to an encounter, a mutual consummation of what is perceived and what gives us pleasure.

The perception of beauty does not occur in every personal situation.

Allowing yourself to enjoy beauty requires an inner state of love for yourself and an interest in what you may be able to feel.   A state of mind that predisposes you to pay attention to what you perceive.  I am never going to be able to appreciate beauty if my mind is full of thoughts that distract me from what I perceive.  A mind that is anxious, yearning, fearful, depressed and angry cannot discern beauty.  Beauty is only perceived by a mind that is at peace.
